We strive to share our campus facilities with our community and neighbors.
Since the early 1960s, Good Shepherd Baptist Church has been active in the Lynnwood community. The church building is located on 196th Street SW near Edmonds Community College on a 2.25 acre site (originally 5 acres). During the past fifty-plus years, the property has served as a winter pasture for burros from a Baptist summer camp high in the Cascades, as a playfield for church and community children (and adults), and as a community garden for residents of the community.
In 2003, the congregation began an ongoing envisioning process to explore long-term ways to best use the property for community service. We are completing creation of a multiple-use campus on the property that will include the all the areas listed on this page.
We make our building open to community groups for meetings or events. Please contact the church office for more information about how your local group can use our centrally-located building for your meetings.
General Information:
Parking
Visitors and members of Good Shepherd may park in our parking lot on the east side of our building. Please note the spaces specified for compact cars.
Overflow parking for Good Shepherd is available in the Shepherd’s Garden north parking lot, this is the lot furthest from 196th Street, adjacent to the Community Gardens and the Shepherd’s Garden smoking gazebo.
Community Garden Area
Our Community Garden area has been expanded and its landscaping improved. The 30-plus community garden plots now have walkways and sitting areas amidst the gardens for use by the gardeners and visitors. The gardens are located on the north side of our campus, near the extended parking area north of Shepherd’s Garden. Some gardens are now raised beds earmarked for Shepherd’s Garden residents. Gardeners often create a garden specifically tended to provide fresh produce to the Lynnwood Food Bank.
Shepherd’s Village
Good Shepherd Baptist Church hosts Shepherd’s Village, a self-contained community of six Pallet Shelters, which provides temporary housing for homeless students. The Village is managed and run by the Jean Kim Foundation. Each unit has a built-in bed, desk, and shelving. The units are equipped with electricity, smoke detector, and HVAC. Shepherd’s Village is further equipped with a solar-powered shower and toilet facilities. Wifi is provided to assist students in study. The Village has an on-site manager.
Future Visions for our Campus:
Community Arboretum and Small Event Venue
One of our long-term visions is to create an Arboretum for our community. In conjunction with Edmonds Community College Horticulture Department, plans call for creating an arboretum area on the northeast quadrant of the property that is currently open space. It will be available for the community to visit and enjoy, plus it may become a resource for elementary school classes studying plant life. In addition to its designed landscaped areas, the site will have an area that can be used for weddings, outdoor church services, and other small community events. A meditation labyrinth is also planned.
Modification of Existing Church Building
The existing church building has not been significantly changed since it was constructed in the 1960s. Our plan, as finances permit, is to expand the existing fellowship hall to nearly double its current size, add improved rest room facilities, modify the layout of the sanctuary, and increase the parking.
